If
everything goes as per plan, LG's new toy G3 will step foot in the second
quarter of this year. There's a strong rumor on the release date of the device.
Some industry observers believe LG G3 will be released in May 2014. Two other
devices are also slated to release in second half of this year. These devices
are Nexus 6 and Moto X2. Thus, LG G3 may have to face stiff competition once it
is out in the market.
The
release date of Nexus 6 is crucial. As per reports, Google earlier decided to
launch Nexus 6 in October 2014. But since LG is pushing forward the release
date of its flagship G3 handset, Google may also push forward Nexus 6's
release. However it's quite unlikely because of two following reasons;
Nexus
series lineage – If we look at the
Nexus series, we'll find that Nexus devices are normally brought into the
market in the last quarter of a year. Nexus 4 was released in 13th November,
2012. Nexus 5's release date was October 31, 2013. It's not clear why Google
would go against this lineage.
Google
I/O – Most analysts are of the opinon that
Nexus 6 will be showcased for the first time at Google I/O which is scheduled
to take place in June. If LG G3 releases in May and Nexus 6 also releases at the same time, it will
hit the stores before being showcased at the I/O. That is very unlikely.
Chances are thus slim that before October, Nexus 6 will hit the shelves.
If
May or June release of LG G3 doesn't facilitate Google Nexus 6 to arrive early,
G3 would see a profitable market. Another thing that needs to be taken into
account is LG's involvement in the Nexus project. Nexus 4' was manufactured by
LG. If Nexus 6 and LG G3 launches at the same time, we may see one of them as
complete iteration of the other. Thus, Google may afford time and study G3 once
it is out and equip Nexus 6 accordingly.
Another
set of rumors projects a complete different scenario in which Nexus 6 would be
manufactured by LG. If that happens, we would see a lot of similarities between
Nexus 6 and LGG3. The rumors bases itself on the fact
that Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 were developed by LG and both of these devices are
designed based on LG's flagship product designs.
During
the pre-release phase of Nexus 5 and 4, rumors were floating that LG G2
inspired Nexus 5 while Nexus 4's design took the keynote of LG Optimus G. When
the Nexus devices were released, consumers saw similarities.
It's
a bit difficult for Nexus 6 to follow LG G3's footstep this time, chiefly
because LG G3 is rumored to sport a slew of advanced features like 1440 x 2560
display, 5.5 inch screen, 3GB RAM and LG Octa-Core Odin processor. The device
is said to be dust resistant and waterproof. If LG is the maker of Nexus 6,
they wouldn't put all those features as that would narrow down the market for
G3.
If
rumors turn true i.e. if G3 releaes in May, we could experience all its
features first hand and speculate whether Google Nexus 6 would replicate them
or opt for better ones.
